Police report: Backyard party halts when officer knocks on door
The Lovell Police Department received the following calls for the week of March 16-22:
March 16: 4:28 p.m. – A caller reported nearly being caught in a phishing scam, with a caller claiming that her Apple account had been hacked in three countries. She was given a number to call purportedly from the U.S. government. She called and was advised to not use her Apple account for 24 hours, as a way to build trust in the scammer, police said. She never provided any personal information. Growing suspicious, the woman called police and was advised to change her password on all accounts and check with her bank for suspicious activity.
March 18: 6:39 p.m. – A caller reported a possible case of animal abuse on Nevada Avenue, claiming a dog had been left in a yard with no fresh water or food, also stating that the dog was filthy. An officer responded and found that the dog appeared to be in good health.
There were nine other animal calls during the week handled by police.
March 19: 5:53 p.m. – A caller reported a car traveling on East Third Street at an excessive speed. The incident was captured on a doorbell video and is under investigation.
9:54 p.m. – An officer responded to a report of two vehicles fishtailing down the dirt road between McKinley and Oregon north of Armory Park. The officer pulled over a vehicle and spoke to the juvenile driver and warned the driver about property damage and reckless driving.
March 20: 9:25 a.m. – A caller reported that a woman parks every day on West Third near Great Western Park “playing on her phone.” An officer spoke to the woman and observed nothing suspicious during the interaction.
7:07 p.m. – A caller reported a stolen wallet in the camper park behind the Conoco Country Store. The reporting party later reported that the wallet had been found.
10:14 p.m. – A caller reported loud music and yelling coming from a backyard on Kansas Avenue, waking neighbors up. An officer responded and knocked on the door, and the music immediately ended and lights were turned off. Nobody would answer the door, but the mother of one of the kids was called and said she would call her daughter.
March 21: 3:41 p.m. – A report of possible blood splatter in a cabin at the Western Motel turned out to be a soda pop that had frozen and exploded in the cabin.
9:09 p.m. – A mother called to report that her 18-year-old daughter had packed her stuff and left the house. An officer spoke to the mother and informed her that the young lady is an adult at age 18 and there’s nothing police can do. However, the Park County Sheriff’s Office later reported that contact had been made with the girl and she was fine.
March 22: 4:22 a.m. – A report of people with flashlights going through a trailer at Bair’s Trailer Court is under investigation.
