Sheriff report: Hunter complains of another hunter using his bear bait
The Big Horn County Sheriff’s Office received the following calls for the week of May 12-17:
May 12: 1:17 p.m. – A caller reported that three horses had escaped from their field on Road 11 near Lovell, but the reporting party called back 10 minutes later and said she had found her horses.
5:17 p.m. – A man saying he walks a certain loop and had been bitten by a dog a few weeks ago on Road 11½ near Lovell reported that the same dog was acting aggressive toward him again during a walk. The dog owner promised to tie the dog up or get an electric fence. The same caller reported the dog being aggressive again on May 16.
7:57 p.m. – A black Angus bull was reported out on Road 5 north of Byron. A deputy called the owner, who came to collect the bull.
May 13: 3:34 p.m. – A trucker flagged down a deputy and said his truck had broken down at the Cowley Mercantile. The deputy gave the driver a ride into Lovell to get a part to repair his truck.
6 p.m. – A caller reported that his car had broken down near Deaver and that he planned to come and get it the following day.
11:36 p.m. – A deputy reported to the scene of a transformer sparking near Wyo-Ben west of Lovell. Rocky Mountain Power was on scene.
May 14: 8:50 a.m. – A deputy responded to a hunting complaint on the John Blue Canyon Road east of Lovell where a hunter complained that another man was hunting a bear off of his bear bait. The complaint was referred to the Wyoming Game and Fish.
1:29 p.m. – A deputy responded to a report of a domestic disturbance in Cowley with threats made. The situation turned out to be a mental health issue.
May 15: 3:42 p.m. – A report of a silver Buick “all over the road” west of Byron was referred to Park County Sheriff and the Wyoming Highway Patrol as the car was heading west toward the county line.
May 16: 12:34 a.m. – A deputy assisted the Lovell Police Department in responding to a report of a fight at the Four Corners in Lovell.
5:11 p.m. – A deputy responded to a fire near Deaver Reservoir. The Deaver-Frannie Fire Department responded and extinguished the blaze.
9:03 p.m. – A deputy responded to the scene of a fire at a feed lot at U.S. 310 and Road 5 near Deaver.
9:35 p.m. – A deputy responded to a car vs. cow collision south of Cowley on Road 5. Brandon Abraham was the driver and was transported to North Big Horn Hospital with lacerations.
May 17: 11:30 a.m. – A cow was reported out at Lane 12 and Highway 32 west of Lovell. The owner was contacted.
Christopher Chadwick of Cowley, 67, was arrested May 13 on a Wyoming Highway Patrol warrant for a bond violation.
