Police report: Rattler inside a home turns out to be bull snake

The Lovell Police Department received the following calls for the week of June 1-7:

June 1: 5:59 p.m. – An officer was able to unlock a vehicle on West Main Street that had keys locked inside.

11:43 p.m. – Following an anonymous report of possible underage drinking at a residence on Hampshire Avenue, an officer responded to the location and could find no lights on at the residence nor any occupied vehicles. Extra patrol was initiated.

June 2: 8:49 a.m. – An officer checked on a vehicle parked at Haskell Funeral Home after a request to have the vehicle moved. The owner was contacted and agreed to remove the vehicle.

9:53 p.m. – An officer responded to a report of a rattlesnake upstairs in a residence on East Second Street. The owner of the residence and the officer found the snake coiled in the lower part of a shelf and discovered that the reptile was actually a bull snake. The snake was put in a bucket and released outside.

June 3: 6:06 p.m. – A caller reported kids running a lemonade stand throwing rocks into the street. An officer responded and found three fairly large rocks in the street but no lemonade stand nor children at the location.

7:58 p.m. – A caller reported that a person on probation was seen at a local bar. An officer responded and administered a portable breathalyzer test, and the person “blew zeroes.” But since the person was not supposed to be in a bar, the officer called Probation and Parole for a report and asked the person to leave the establishment.

June 4: 9:41 a.m. – The Bank of Lovell reported a counterfeit $100 bill found in a large deposit and turned the bill over to police.

11 a.m. – A citizen reported receiving concerning text messages on a cell phone. An officer determined the texts to be a scam and provided instruction on deleting the messages and blocking the number.

4:21 p.m. – A caller reported a minor crash a few days before at Armory Park where the caller had been backed into by another driver. The two parties worked out the situation but reported the fender bender for insurance purposes.

7:57 p.m. – A caller reported being chased by three dogs on East Eighth Street while riding a bicycle. An officer responded and issued three citations for dog at large.

June 5: 12:06 a.m. – A caller reported a white Denali type of vehicle driving “in and out of the lines” and heading out of town to the west. The sheriff’s office and highway patrol were notified.

12:20 p.m. – A driver backed into a parked vehicle at a Main Street business and left the scene. An officer responded and issued citations for improper backing and having no insurance.

7:30 p.m. – Following a request for a welfare check, the officer responded to the Uptown Apartments and made contact with the subject of the call. Everything was OK.

June 6: 2:28 p.m. -- A caller reported roofing material flying off the Queen Bee Gardens building on East Main and into traffic. The owner was contacted and made immediate arraignments for a contractor to make repairs.

10:05 p.m. – A caller reported a 60- to 70-year-old male without a shirt “acting weird” and blocking their driveway on East Second Street as they were attempting to park. An officer made contact with the male, who said he was trying to get a vehicle started. The man eventually got the vehicle started and left the scene.

June 7: 6:33 a.m. – An agitated caller reported someone in her home on Oregon Avenue. An officer responded and cleared the house, finding no one besides the owner at the residence. The owner couldn’t get up off the floor, and an ambulance was called to take the woman to the hospital.

2:03 p.m. – A caller reported suspicious activity on Lincoln Avenue with multiple people going in and out of a residence. Extra patrol was initiated.

6:05 p.m. – A caller reported that there would be people going in and out of The Market on Main Street all night and the following night to strip and wax floors at the supermarket.
