Young Mustangs crush Powell to maintain undefeated season
The red-hot Lovell Mustangs B/C squad maintained their unblemished record last week, clobbering the Powell Pioneers C team 17-3 and 22-3 last Wednesday, June 10, to improve their record to 6-0.
In game one, the Mustangs led 2-0 after the first inning, then broke the game open by scoring seven in the second inning, then added two in the third, two in the fourth and four in the fifth.
The Mustangs banged out 12 hits led by Jaxen Baxendale, who went 3 for 3 with two runs batted in and two runs scored. Aaiden Walker went 2-3 with three RBIs while scoring three runs. Dane Wilson and Camden Blain had two hits and two RBIs apiece.
Bradley Mickelson started on the mound and allowed just one run in three innings of work on four hits but no walks while striking out three. Wilson and Walker threw one inning each, with Walker allowing a pair of runs in the final frame.
Lovell led Powell 12-3 after three innings in game two, then exploded for 10 runs in the fourth to turn the game into a rout. The Mustangs outhit the Pioneers 17-2, led by Blain, who went 4-5 with three RBIs and two runs. Wilson went 3-3 with three runs batted in, Harper Morgan 3-5 with three RBIs and three runs. Mickelson also went 3-5 in the leadoff spot, scoring four runs and driving in two.
Madden Cooley picked up the win on the hill, throwing three innings and allowing three runs, two earned, on two hits and two walks, fanning three. Morgan threw the final frame, blanking the home team on no hits and striking out a pair.
The Mustangs are scheduled to travel to Cody today (Thursday) for a doubleheader at 3 and 5 p.m., to Thermopolis Monday for a pair at 4 p.m. and to Lander Wednesday for two at 5 p.m. They finally play another home date Tuesday, June 30, hosting Powell.
