Lovell B/C team drops three games as streak comes to an end

They finally took a loss, then two more.

After starting the season 7-0, the Lovell Mustangs B/C American Legion Baseball team dropped a close game to Cody last week, then fell to Thermopolis twice on Monday to fall to 7-3.

Playing a doubleheader in Cody on Thursday, June 18, the Mustangs stopped the Cubs 11-3 in game one, then lost the nightcap 9-7.

Leading 6-3 in game one, the Mustangs plated five runs in the fifth inning to put the game away. Bradley Mickelson hit a one-out single, stole second and moved to third on a passed ball. He scored on an error on a ball hit by Harper Morgan, and after a walk to Brhysan Henton, Easton Morgan also worked Morgan Voodoo and reached on an error, loading the bases. Dane Wilson then blasted a double to clear the bases and scored on a single by Camden Blain.

Wilson had a day, going 3-4 with four RBIs and two runs scored. Blain went 3-3 with two RBIs and a run. Mickelson added two hits and three runs.

Easton Morgan started on the mound and logged two innings, allowing one run on two hits and two walks, striking out five. Wilson threw one inning, allowing two runs, and Mickelson threw the final two frames, blanking the Cubs on one hit while fanning four.

Lovell led 4-2 after three innings in game two but allowed two runs in the fourth, four in the fifth and one more in the sixth while putting three more on the scoreboard. Lovell out-hit Cody 10-8, but the team was plagued by errors.

Mickelson, Wilson, Easton Morgan and Adam Hill had two hits apiece, with Easton hitting a homerun, Taysen Yates a triple. Easton tallied three RBIs, Wilson two.

Madden Cooley started on the hill and allowed six runs on six hits and five walks before giving way to Harper Morgan, who allowed three runs, one earned, on two hits and three walks.

Thermop losses

The Mustangs fell to Thermopolis 6-3 and 10-1 Monday in Thermop.

Lovell and Thermopolis were tied 3-3 after five innings, but the Bobcats scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth to take the lead, then shut out the Mustangs in the seventh.

Easton Morgan and Dallin Bischoff had two hits each for the Mustangs, and Mickelson threw 4 2/3 innings as the starting pitcher, Dax Mangus 1 1/3 frames. Morgan allowed three runs, two earned, and Mangus allowed three runs, one earned.

Game two was all Thermop as the Lovell bats could manage just one run and two hits, one each by Harper Morgan and Bischoff.

Thermopolis led 5-0 before Lovell scored one run in the top of the fourth on an RBI single by Bischoff. Cooley started and took the loss, allowing five runs, three earned, in three innings of work. Harper Morgan allowed five runs in one-third of an inning, and Easton Morgan got the final two outs.

The young Mustangs will return to action next Tuesday, June 30, when they host Powell at 5 and 7 p.m.
