Sheriff report: Powell driver strikes cow near Byron
The Big Horn County Sheriff’s Office received the following calls for the week of August 10-16:
August 10: 3:41 a.m. – A deputy assisted Lovell Police with a mental health call in Lovell.
1:25 p.m. – A caller reported a semi parked on the side of U.S. Highway 310 with flashers on about 15 miles south of Lovell. When deputy responded, the truck had left the location.
August 11: 9:12 a.m. – A caller requesting information on how to obtain a protection order was referred to CARES.
11:29 a.m. – A caller reported that a belly dump trailer lost part of a load of bentonite about two miles east of Deaver on U.S. 310. WyDOT was called to clean up the bentonite.
7:50 p.m. – A caller on Lane 11½ reported that a neighbor’s dogs have repeatedly come over a fence in a threatening manner and attacking his dogs. A deputy responded and spoke to the neighbor, who said one of the dogs would be leaving in a few days and that they would keep the remaining dog on their property.
August 12: 6:34 p.m. – A deputy cleared sheetrock from U.S. 310 about 12 miles south of Lovell.
Christopher Chadwick of Cowley was arrested for a probation violation.
August 13: 6:24 a.m. – A caller reported sheep loose on East Lane. The owner took care of them.
10:20 a.m. – A caller reported a black bear wandering in the Yellowtail Wildlife Habitat Management Area northeast of Lovell.
8:03 p.m. – A caller reported that a mini-horse had wandered into his yard on Road 18 near Lovell. He called neighbors, and nobody seemed to know who owned the horse. He said he wanted to report it and would hold onto it, adding that he has proper shelter for the animal.
8:09 p.m. – A caller reported a white truck driving erratically at a high rate of speed on U.S. 310 and “spinning out” on Lane 12. The caller was concerned that the truck might wreck and/or kill someone. A deputy was unable to locate the truck.
August 14: 9:43 a.m. – A deputy provided a civil standby and agency assist for DFS in Byron.
August 15: 2:15 a.m. – A deputy assisted Lovell Police with a juvenile incident at Bair’s Trailer Court.
9:53 a.m. – A rancher notified dispatch that he would be moving around 300 cows across the highway on U.S. 14A West near Byron. Two deputies and a highway patrol trooper provided traffic control.
5:43 p.m. – Lovell Police reported a white pickup driving erratically in the area. A deputy was unable to locate the truck.
10:38 p.m. – A deputy assisted at the scene of a vehicle vs. cow accident about a mile northeast of Byron. A brown 2000 Ford Ranger driven by Andrew Prescott, 26, of Powell was damaged in the collision.
August 16: 7:22 p.m. – A caller reported kids speeding on a four-wheeler on Lane 12. The Lovell Police Department made contact with the youths.
