Final write in votes tallied

Multiple write-in nominations accepted

After analysis by the Big Horn County Clerk’s Office, a county canvassing board report and acceptance by nominated citizens, several races have formed for the November General Election, the clerk’s office reported this week.

All Republican nominations for county seats will carry on to the General Election, with write-in nominations falling short of votes garnered by filed candidates. There were no filed Democratic candidates for county office, nor any qualifying write-in nominations.

Legislature

Ralph Nieder-Westermann of Greybull received 29 votes in the Primary on Democratic ballots for House District 26 in the Wyoming Legislature. Should Nieder-Westermann accept the nomination, he would join Rep. Dalton Banks, the Republican nominee, on the general election ballot in November.

Town races

Among the various municipal races in North Big Horn County, Clint Johnson received 10 write-in votes for mayor in Lovell but will not be on the ballot with incumbent Tom Newman in November since he is not a registered voter, according to the clerk’s office. Town council candidates Dan Anderson, Bob Mangus, Jeff McCollam and Jason Sumaya will advance to the general election.

In Cowley, there were 57 write-in votes cast for mayor, with one candidate possibly joining Stephen Winters on the general election ballot. KJ Blackburn received 17 write-in votes and has accepted the votes, giving filed candidate Winters an opponent in November.

Cowley also has a write-in nominee for town council, joining Scott Crosby, Dexter Woodis and Rose Ames on the general election ballot. Michael Wilson received four write-in votes, Bryan Baird three. Baird accepted the nomination and will join Crosby, Woodis and Ames on the ballot in November.

In Byron, Mayor Alan Clark will be unopposed in November with no qualifying write-in votes cast. Likewise, there were no qualifying write-in votes for town council, so Brandon Hessenthaler, Shae Abraham and Taliesha Beech will each advance to the General.

There were few write-in votes cast for mayor and council in Deaver, but Kelly Spann did receive a qualifying three votes for town council and will be on the ballot for a two-year seat on the council after accepting the nomination Wednesday morning.

Incumbent Stephen Gillett was on the primary election ballot for that seat but died prior to the election. Mayor Bill Camp and council members Shauna Crouch and Kayla James will be unopposed in November.

There were no write-in votes cast for mayor in Frannie, so Mayor Garret Frescoln will be unopposed in the General, as will filed candidates Keara Poole and Guy DeSantis for two four-year seats on the council.

There were no filed candidates for a two-year seat on the council, but John Ellis has accepted his eight write-in votes and will be on the ballot.

The U.S. General Election will take place on Tuesday, November 3.
