Schultz named sergeant of Lovell Police Dept.

The Lovell Police Department has a new sergeant. Dusty Schultz has been promoted from patrol officer to patrol sergeant, effective in late August.

Schultz has 10 years of law enforcement experience and has been with the LPD for eight years.

A Lovell native, Schultz enlisted in the Marines after high school and served for four years. After his discharge in 2010 he lived in Powell and then Byron doing reclamation work for Marchant Reclamation, then moved to Denver for five years, working for DirecTV as an installation technician and as an installation support specialist.

He returned to Wyoming in 2016 and was hired by the Town of Frannie as a part-time officer doing traffic enforcement and some investigation work. He added Deaver and Byron to his patrol duties and entered the Wyoming Law Enforcement Academy in January of 2018.

He was hired by then Lovell chief of police Dan Laffin in June of 2018 as a full-time patrol officer, and after the retirement of Sgt. Steve Coleman in March, the sergeant position remained open until Schultz was promoted in August.

Schultz said he is looking forward to an administrative role in which he will assist younger officers with training and procedures, and he is pleased that, for the first time since 2019, the Lovell Police Department is fully staffed with a chief, sergeant and four patrol officers.

The full staff will allow for an increase in training and the ability for officers to take some time off on a more regular basis.
