Collingwood and Shepperson win all-around titles at Big Horn Rodeo Circuit finals

Big Horn County cowboys and cowgirls competing at this year’s Big Horn Rodeo Circuit Finals rose to the top in Thermopolis Saturday, Sept. 19.

Greybull’s JT Collingwood is this year’s all-around cowboy. Collingwood scored 76 points during the circuit with 10 points at the finals for a total of 86 points. For Collingwood, the victory is bittersweet.

“It meant a lot,” Collingwood said. His close friend, the late Casey Good, held the all-around cowboy title for the last 10 consecutive years. “That’s why it’s a big deal,” he added.

Youngster Lincoln Shepperson of Shell won all-around youth cowboy. Shepperson scored 99 points during the circuit with 21 points at the finals for a total of 120 points. 

Lacee Good of Greybull was named the reserve all-around cowgirl. Good scored 70 points during the circuit with six points at the finals for a total of 76 points. 

Top placers included Cowley’s Lily Swank, who claimed first in youth barrels; Shepperson took first in youth breakaway; Matt Paumer and Ashtyn Noland with a first-place finish in team roping; and Jayce Sorensen and Casey Nelson clinching first in mixed team roping. 

Hot Springs County Chute Out Rodeo was the host and the newest rodeo to join the circuit. Established in 2015, the BHRC is comprised of eight different town rodeos with a total of nine rodeos, one town hosts two rodeos each year. 

Greybull’s rodeo is hosted in conjunction with the Days of ’49 in June, Lovell’s in conjunction with Lovell’s Days in June and the Basin rodeo in conjunction with the Big Horn County Fair in July. 

Cowley hosted two rodeos again this year. The first kicked off the season back in May, the Cowley Spring Rodeo hosted by the Cowley Riding Club and the Cowley Pioneer Day Rodeo in conjunction with Cowley Days in July. 

Other stops over the summer included Ten Sleep, Worland, Thermopolis and Meeteetse. Organizers said they had 101 members registered this year.
