Lorna Thompson Asay

Oct. 14, 1930 – Aug. 18, 2026

Our sweet mom, Lorna Thompson Asay, 95, passed away August 18, 2026, at approximately 10:30 p.m. in West Haven, Utah. 

Lorna was born October 14, 1930, in Lovell. She was always active and full of life. As a girl she helped with the chores, rode horses and threw rocks at rattlesnakes. 

She met and married Rupert Asay, and together they built a home filled with knowledge, care, love and fun — complete with stilts, unicycles and even ice-skating rinks for themselves and their five children.

Her children were always her first priority. She was a great listener and giver of wise advice. She also spent her time sewing, knitting, crocheting, gardening and canning the bounty from the garden she and Rupert tended. She taught her children and grandchildren to ride bikes and to drive. She wrote books and poems for her family. 

She worked in the school library, where she created exceptionally creative bulletin boards and told wonderful stories to the children. We could never go to the store without one of the children recognizing her and running up to give her a hug. That simple moment reflected the love and kindness she freely gave to her husband, her children and everyone who crossed her path.

Lorna was active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings. She and Rupert, along with their children, were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple for time and eternity. She had a deep love for God and His teachings, which she shared simply by the example of her life, blessing all those around her.

Her beautiful smile, infectious laughter and fun-loving spirit will be greatly missed. The love she so generously and eternally gave us will always remain in our hearts.

She is now with her loving husband, our dad, Rupert; parents Calvin and LuNita Thompson; all of her brothers and sisters; grandsons and granddaughters; daughter-in-law Cindy; and many dear friends.

She is survived by her five children, Marica Asay, Vickie (Michael) Rossiter, Daren Asay, Debbie (Marty) Morford and Kim Asay (Leone Danae); along with grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held September 18 at 10 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Lovell, followed by interment at the Lovell Cemetery.
