Lovell top seed heading to Regionals

Lovell swept Powell 25-15, 25-12, 25-16 on Thursday in Powell to finish conference volleyball play unbeaten and enter the Class 3A West Regional Tournament as the No. 1 seed. These matches finally proved “cats are cool but dogs rule” for the regular season.

“The varsity played ‘lights-out!’ It was especially fun to watch as they competed while still growing to their peak for the post season,” coach Tera Kostelecky said.

The Bulldogs won the opening set 25-15 against the Panthers, taking the first step toward a sweep as they pursue back-to-back state championships.

Lovell followed with a 25-12 win in the second set, scoring quickly and defending its lead.

Powell generated more offense in the third set, but Lovell closed out the match with a 25-16 win before a loud Powell Homecoming crowd. Lovell also won the freshman and junior varsity matches between the schools.

The Bulldogs finished with a 10-0 conference record and will open regional play against 3A West eighth seed Rawlins at 1:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 30, in Worland.

“We are confident the girls will perform how they know they need to to complete their season with their goals reached. The team proved their toughness one point at a time to finish the conference seeded number one. We will face this tournament the same as we face every other tournament, one match at a time,” Kostelecky said.

If the Lady Bulldogs win, they will face the winner of the first-round Worland-Lander match Friday at 6:45 p.m. The championship match is set for Saturday at 5:45 p.m.
