Strong performances propel Lady Grizz to sixth at State Track

Rocky Mountain head track and field coach Tobee Christiansen spoke with pride and satisfaction this week about the performance of the RMHS team at the state meet in Casper over the weekend as many athletes turned in personal records and/or broke school records.
He also noted a trio of senior girls who concluded their athletic careers with strong performances at the state meet.

Mustangs C squad goes 1-2 on the week

The Lovell Mustangs C team took an 11-3 loss to Powell on Thursday before splitting with Sheridan on Saturday, winning game one 9-5 and falling 19-8 in game two.
Against Powell, Easton Morgan led the way offensively with two hits at the plate while Max Morgan, Rocco Rael, Jaxson Miller and Lucas Miller had a hit each.
Kannon Owens took the loss on the mound after getting the start, going three innings and giving up four runs and striking out three batters.

Little League opening ceremonies set for tonight

Opening day ceremonies for all of the Big Horn County Little League players will be tonight (Thursday, May 23) at 5:30 p.m. at the Northeast Little League Complex in Lovell.
All players from tee-ball, machine pitch, minors and majors divisions will be announced, and are encouraged to wear their team shirts and hats.
After the players and coaches are announced for each team, there will be a flag ceremony, singing of the National Anthem, reciting of the Little League pledge and prayer.

Love, Teter named top senior athletes at LHS

A pair of standout competitors were named the Lovell High School senior male and female athletes of the year at the Lovell High School Senior Awards Night May 13.
James Love and Summer Teter were honored during the program.
Love was a three-time all-state wrestler for the Bulldogs and a muti-year starter at center and defensive tackle for the Bulldogs football team, earning honorable mention all-conference recognition his junior and senior year.

The Lovell High School track and field team appears to be in peak form as the Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs head into the postseason at the 3A West Regional track and field meet in Mountain View this weekend.
Lovell attended the Bobcat Invitational in Thermopolis Friday to wrap up the regular season and fine-tune events for Regionals and State.
The Lovell boys won the team title, finishing first out of 19 teams with 109 points, edging Worland with 101.5 points, host Thermopolis with 101 points and Powell with 91.

Everything is in line for the regional and state track meets, Rocky Mountain track and field coach Tobee Christiansen said this week following Rocky’s competition in the final meet of the regular season Friday, the Bobcat Invitational in Thermopolis.
“We’ve got things pretty much set for who will be where,” Christiansen said. “The hay’s in the barn, so to speak. We just need to compete now.”
In running events for the Rocky boys, Coach C noted the effort of sophomore Will Watts, who placed 12th out of 59 runners in a time of 24.93 seconds.

Rocky eighth-grade boys capture conference meet

The Rocky Mountain Middle School track and field program completed a successful 2024 season last week by hosting the Big Horn Conference meet in Cowley.
The home cooking paid off for the Rocky eighth-grade boys, as they topped the field of six schools to win the team title with 169 points, well ahead of second-place Burlington with 120.6 points.
In other divisions, the Rocky seventh-grade boys placed second to Greybull with 113 points to Greybull’s 200. The eighth-grade girls placed third, the seventh-grade Lady Grizz fourth.

There was some exciting school record-breaking by Lovell Mustang athletes at the Yellowstone Conference Track and Field meet in Thermopolis Saturday including sixth grader Bradley Mickelson in the high jump with a jump of 5-0.

Mustangs sweep Riverton in home opener

The Lovell Mustangs American Legion baseball team went 2-0 on Saturday against the Riverton Raiders in the season’s home opener in Cowley.
The Mustangs defeated the Raiders 8-3 and 8-2 in the doubleheader.
In game one, Lovell jumped out to an early 4-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning as Lafe Files tripled to knock in two runs.
Offensively, the Mustangs fared much better against Riverton than their previous outing in Billings.
Lovell had 11 hits at the plate and only surrendered five outs via strikeout.
