Strong outing for LHS golf teams in Cody

The Lovell High School girls and boys golf teams had another successful tournament on Friday, May 3, in Cody.
Despite of the colder temperatures and strong wind, coach Dane Robertson was pleased to see the lower individual scores.
Erika Cook continued her dominance for the girls by shooting a 67 on the course to win by a margin of 12 strokes.
Madison Wolvington finished at 97 to place 14th at the event with Kenley Wilson at 22nd, shooting 111.

Majors and minors seasons underway

The Big Horn County Little League majors and minors have started their seasons with games last week.
In minor league action, the Braves went 2-0 in Greybull last Thursday, beating their opponent 13-0 and 16-3.
The Rays also beat a team from Greybull 6-3 and 13-0 on Thursday in Lovell.
The Twins had their first game on Tuesday against the Rays and almost pulled off a last inning comeback before falling 6-5.
The late game on Tuesday between the Twins and Braves was cancelled due to weather.

Cowley Spring Rodeo held Saturday

Cowgirls and cowboys from throughout the Big Horn Basin and beyond gathered at the Cowley Rodeo Grounds on Saturday for the Cowley Riding Club’s annual spring rodeo. This is the 75th anniversary year for the popular early season competition.
Jay Dillon won the bareback competition with a score of 68. Domanic Hartley won bull riding with a score of 79.
In calf roping, Kolton Miller won with a score of 13.21, Joe Panetta took second place with 19.28 and Ty Wilcox placed third at 19.62.

Two more school records go down for LHS track

The majority of the Lovell High School track and field squad made the short trip to Cowley for the Rocky Mountain Invitational Saturday, while three members also qualified for the Wyoming Track and Field Classic best-of-the-best meet in Casper Friday.

Grizzly thinclads enjoy home cooking at RMHS Invitational

A quick count of the results of the Rocky Mountain Invitational track and field meet Saturday shows some 27 personal records set by RMHS athletes, showing that the Grizzlies are peaking at the right time with the regional and state track meets approaching.
“Any time you have that many kids PR, you’re definitely heading in the right direction,” Rocky head coach Tobee Christiansen said.

LHS Spring golf looking strong

The Lovell High School golf teams have competed in three tournaments so far this spring and appear to be continuing their successes from the fall season.
Although the Buffalo tournament scheduled for a couple weeks ago was canceled, the golfers haven’t missed a stride.
Erika Cook continues to dominate the girls side of things and will have lots of momentum going into her freshman year in Laramie for the University of Wyoming Cowgirls in the fall.

Lovell Mustangs drop doubleheader in Billings Saturday

The Lovell Mustangs traveled to Billings for a doubleheader against the Cardinals on Saturday, April 27.
In the first game, both teams were strong on the mound, but the Cardinals edged the Mustangs at the plate to take the 2-0 victory.
Tucker Jackson got the nod on the hill to pitch and went four complete innings, only allowing one hit, walking three and striking out three batters without giving up a run.

Records set for middle school Grizz in Burlington

It was a record setting day for the Rocky Mountain Middle School track and field team at the Burlington Invitational Friday as the team broke four school records, three by Mason Moss.
Moss, an eighth grader, broke the record in the 100-meter hurdles, 200-meter hurdles and 200-meter dash, head coach Josh Sponsel said. Eighth grader Cooper Ward also broke the record in the 100-meter dash.
Sponsel said times had to be adjusted from handheld to fully automatic timing, but even with the slower adjusted times, the records were broken.

Team Sinclair caps undefeated season

Six teams participated in the Lovell Recreation District’s men’s league basketball season.
The teams were BBF South, KB Lumber, Team Minemyer, Team Sinclair, Team Shumway and the Wise Guys.
The championship game was held on Thursday, April 4, at the Bairs’ MJ Court. Team Sinclair faced Team BBF South for the title. Team Sinclair came out on top and finished with an undefeated season.
Members of Team Sinclair were Corey Brower, Aaron Clark, Andy Clark, Adam Clark, Joseph Davidson, AJ Clark, Tanner Rohrer, Ryan Clark and Jared Minchow.

Benefit roping event in Cowley draws big crowd

A benefit roping event for Billy Slabbert, a 4-year-old Cowley boy with cerebral palsy, attracted more than 120 teams. The more than $20,000 raised at the event will pay for much needed and very specialized medical based physical therapy that Slabbert, who was diagnosed with cerebral palsy at three months old, desperately needs.
