The Rocky Mountain Grizzly wrestling squad kicked off the new year with a series of dual matches in Lovell and Shoshoni Friday and Saturday.
Competing in the annual Big Horn County Triangular Friday in Lovell, the Grizz fell to Lovell 64-16 and Greybull/Riverside, though coach Eddie Whiting said he couldn’t recall the score.

SHERIDAN (WNE) — Early estimates from Wyoming’s 2023 sage grouse wings indicate increased sage grouse reproduction. Wings from harvested chick and hen sage grouse are collected from hunters — primarily in central and southwest Wyoming — who voluntarily contribute wings by dropping them off at designated collection points during the hunting season.
Hunters deposited wings from 1,551 chicks and 852 hens in collection barrels. In a preliminary analysis, Wyoming’s 2023 chick-to-hen ratio was 1.82 chicks/hen.

Grizzlies overpowered in 2024 opener

It was a rough start to the new year for the Rocky Mountain Grizzlies, as they found themselves overwhelmed by a powerful and talented Powell Panther squad at home Friday night.
Rocky fell to the Class 3A power 71-19.
Powell scored the first two baskets of the game off Grizzly turnovers, and after coach Pat Winland called a timeout, the Panthers knocked down a three-pointer and went on to lead 19-0, then 23-2 after the first quarter.

Early deficit leads to road loss for Bulldogs

A slow start on the road against Class 4A Cody cost the Lovell Bulldogs Friday night as they fell to the Broncs 54-38.
The Bulldogs struggled early in the game and trailed 14-5 after the first quarter and 32-15 at halftime.
“I was disappointed in the way we came out,” coach Shane Durtsche said. “We weren’t ready to compete, and they were. They came out and punched us in the mouth. Honestly, that was the biggest difference.
“I told the kids at halftime our lack of aggression got us behind.”
