Mack Page faces multiple felony charges for Byron vandalism

Mack Page, the Northwest College student who allegedly broke into and vandalized the former Byron school building with two of his fellow basketball players was present for an arraignment hearing on Tuesday.
Page faced attended the arraignment the Fifth Judicial Court for the State of Wyoming for Case Number CR.2023.0088.

Sheriff’s report: Car wrongly towed to residential address

The Big Horn County Sheriff’s Department received the following calls for the week of December 4 to December 10:
Dec. 4: 11:13 p.m.- A broken down semi truck partially blocked the lane of travel at MP 223 on Highway 310 near Lovell. A deputy checked on the driver, who was fine.
Dec. 6: 10:39 a.m. – A dog in Byron was reported to be aggressive and wandering. The owner called the dog back into the yard and reported it only barked a bit and was not aggressive. The owner received a municipal citation.

Police Report: Dog bites post office employee

The Lovell Police Department received the following calls for the week of November 27 to December 3:
Dec. 4: 10:37 a.m.- A male reported he had been scammed. The male was speaking to a woman online for a few months who said she had money from an inheritance. He put the check in the bank, after which the woman started demanding money. The man sent her $1,600. He was advised that it was a scam and to contact his bank for reimbursement.

County Search and Rescue makes case for new building at south airport

Sheriff Ken Blackburn, Lieutenant Mark Raymond and Search & Rescue captains Jeff Schmidt and Wes Mangus met with the Big Horn County commissioners on December 6.

Elementary schools rake in food items

Local elementary schools have knocked it out of the park this year with their respective Christmas food drives to provide items for the annual Lovell Volunteer Fire Department Christmas basket program.
According to Lovell Elementary School student council sponsor Gwen Walker, LES gathered 2,119 food items for the 2023 drive. That total is up 426 from last year’s total of 1,693 items of food.
The top class in the annual school contest was the fourth grade, Walker said, gathering 592 items. The class wins a pizza party for their efforts.

Christmas crafts

The Lovell Library is bustling with holiday activities for the kids this season. A craft day was held on December 7, and Breakfast with Santa was on Tuesday.
At the craft day, a book was read by volunteer Donna Capellen and kids made painted ornaments after. The ornaments were acrylic blanks with vinyl attached to them, Capellen said. Kids painted an assortment of colors on the front of the ornament, and when that dried they painted black on front, which created an Aurora Borealis look, she said.

Open mic format for chamber meeting

The Lovell Area Chamber of Commerce membership luncheon will be held Monday, Dec. 18, at the Mustang Cafe from noon to 1 p.m. The program will be an open mic format.
“We will discuss successes and programs the chamber has been involved in for 2023 and what is coming up for 2024,” chamber manager Linda Morrison said. “This format welcomes suggestions from members on things we might consider for the new year and beyond.”

Kane Christmas bird count slated for Saturday

The annual Kane Christmas bird count will be held on Saturday, Dec. 16, in the Bighorn Canyon National Recreation Area.
This will be the 33rd year for the Kane count. Many people have been participating for several years, but Bighorn Canyon is always looking for new people.
“You don’t have to be an expert. We will pair you with one of our amazing, longtime birders,” said Christy Fleming, Bighorn Canyon Chief of Interpretation.

Threepeat victory for Lovell Knowledge Bowl team

Catching up from behind, it wasn’t until the end of the final round that Knowledge Bowl coach Bret George knew Lovell High School would win Big Horn Basin Knowledge Bowl.
The meet took place on December 6 starting bright and early at 9 a.m. at Greybull High School. George had hope that his team would win the whole day, but the victory came down to the wire.
